Kennedy and North Star Mine Model Exhibits:
Take a trip back in time to the 1920's and watch replicas of equipment of the Kennedy and North Star Mines in operation in large scale working models. The three models demonstrate the functions of a headframe hoisting equipment, the stamp mill and the famous Kennedy Mine Tailing Wheels.

Visitors can see an operating gold mine and can mine their own gold by panning, sluicing, dredging, and dry washing. In the Mokelumne Canyon, the three forks of the Mokelumne River come together. It is a river unsurpassed in natural beauty. There are waterfalls and natural rock formations forty feet high. There is also a quiet, secluded "swimming hole" Be sure to bring your fishing gear. The fishing here is excellent!

For 40 years VTC has brought entertaining plays to the public. They are a community theatre located in Volcano, California, producing 5 shows per year. Their amphitheatre hosts two summer plays each year, where hundreds of people see shows while enjoying a picnic under the stars. The Cobblestone Theatre, their indoor venue, is the smallest fixed seat theatre in California. Seating limited to 50 persons

Recreation
Kirkwood Ski Resort, offering some of the finest downhill and cross country skiing in the Lake Tahoe Area, is at the north end of Amador County, an easy drive "up-country", (209-258-6000).
There are many lakes in the area - Lake Amador, Lake Camanche, Pardee Lake are noted for fishing. Gently rolling hills and country roads provide many opportunities for hiking and biking.
For tee times, there are two golf courses- Castle Oaks in Ione (209-274-0167) and Mace Meadows in Pioneer (209-295-7020). |
